Retired on Nov 1, 2026, replaced by SuperCosmos 1.1. The ids line-code, line-code-fast, line-code-ultra and line-code-ultra-fast now answer 410 model_retired and are never billed, and Line CLI moves to SuperCosmos automatically. This page keeps Line Code's documentation for reference. To switch, see Line Code retirement and SuperCosmos 1.1.

Line Code is Line CLI's own coding model: smart, fast and disciplined. It is available in Line CLI (v5 beta and later) and the Model API (model ids line-code-fast, line-code-ultra and line-code-ultra-fast), not in the Agent API or Cosmos Agent, and it runs on its own capacity, separate from SuperCosmos. It is a mixture-of-experts model with about 428B parameters (23B active per token) and a 256K-token context window (262,144 tokens); all three efforts share them.

It is fast by default and thinks harder only when a step needs it: a rename or a one-line fix goes straight to the tools, while a design decision, an unclear failing test, concurrency or security gets real reasoning before any file is touched. It verifies its changes with your project's own checks and never claims a result it didn't see.

Terminal
line --model line-code # this run
line --model line-code --effort ultra-fast # this run, with an effort

In the TUI: /model → Line Code, then pick an effort, or switch any time with /effort.

Efforts

EffortWhat it doesUse it for
Fast (default)Acts quickly and thinks only as much as each step needsEveryday edits, fixes, tool loops
UltraThinks deeply, plans with a to-do list, checks edge cases and reviews its own diffHard bugs, refactors, anything you want done carefully
Ultra FastThe most accurate and the fastest: deep reasoning plus parallel (hedged) generation, front-loaded context and self-verificationWhen both quality and speed matter more than cost

Switch with /effort fast, /effort ultra or /effort ultra-fast (or the picker). The effort is saved for your next sessions.

Pricing

Each effort has its own price, per 1M tokens:

UltraCareful

$1.90Output

per 1M tokens

Hard bugs, refactors, anything you want done carefully.

Ultra FastBest quality
$1.40Input
$2.20Output

per 1M tokens

When both quality and speed matter more than cost.

Uses about 30× the tokens of Fast on the same task

EffortInput / 1M tokensOutput / 1M tokens
Fast$1.15$1.60
Ultra$1.25$1.90
Ultra Fast$1.40$2.20

Output includes reasoning tokens. Ultra Fast uses by far the most tokens (about 30× Fast on the same task): it thinks longer and sends each step twice in parallel to take the faster answer, so the input of that second copy is counted too. In Line CLI it counts toward your plan's limits (every effort on every plan); through the Model API it is paid from credits. Each call is priced at the effort it ran on and shows in the Console as Line Code. All model prices are on Models.
